THE PROBLEM
~85% of homes in Westview (1,000+ households!) do not have safe walking access to the Beltline!
2 of the top 5 most dangerous High Injury Network roadways in Atlanta bisect Westview!
These two roadways saw 48 injuries and fatalities between 2014-2016, accounting for 23% of all incidents on HIN roads during that time!
Westview and other southwest Atlanta neighborhoods have some of the lowest rates of car ownership and, therefore, highest pedestrian activity in the city.
The City of Atlanta, GDOT, and ABI have failed to provide safe Beltline access for our community!
THE SOLUTION
ABI already owns the vacant parcel of land adjacent to the BeltLine at S Gordon St.
ABI already has plans to develop this site for a BeltLine access point.
ABI has simply chosen to deprioritize this project due to funding constraints.
YOUR VOICE WILL HELP US PETITION ABI TO HAVE THIS CIRITICAL PROJECT PRIORITIZED!
The stride atl MISSION AND VALUES
Stride ATL exists to advocate for safe, accessible, and equitable mobility infrastructure in Westview, Southwest Atlanta, and the broader BeltLine trail.
Southwest Atlanta is home to some of the city’s most dangerous High Injury Network roadways and residents of these neighborhoods have witnessed far too many pedestrian and cyclist injuries and deaths. We believe that safe pedestrian and multi-modal access to mobility resources around our city is critical for ensuring thriving neighborhoods and communities.
We tackle projects that support this mission and align to these four core values:
Safety. Atlanta is a city built for cars that has a track-record of designing streets and roadways without any consideration for the safety of non-vehicular traffic. We must find ways to make our streets less dangerous for all users, prioritizing the safety of pedestrians and cyclists.
Accessibility. Smart accessibility solutions for existing mobility infrastructure (like the BeltLine) bring more utilization, market demand, and resources to these valuable public assets. Without safe access, they simply won’t be used.
Mobility. Leveraging every opportunity to improve multi-modal transport helps alleviate Atlanta’s growing traffic problem and gives residents and visitors more ways to get around the city. We should be exploring all options for transporting people safely.
Equity. Southwest Atlanta and its lower-income communities have some of the lowest rates of car ownership and, therefore, highest pedestrian activity. Improvements to mobility infrastructure should benefit all neighbors of these underserved communities equally, whether they be pedestrians or cyclists, old or new.

PETITION BACKGROUND: The Westside BeltLine trail is a wonderful multi-modal resource that runs right through the heart of Westview but, currently, most of the neighborhood is unable to access it safely. The only access points that do exist require many neighbors to cross through major intersections of dangerous High Injury Network roadways, Cascade Rd and Ralph David Abernathy Blvd. With some of the highest rates of HIN roadway injuries and fatalities, Westview needs safe BeltLine access!
ACTION PETITIONED FOR: We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens and neighbors who urge the leaders of Atlanta BeltLine Inc., City of Atlanta, and GDOT to provide Westview, its neighbors, and its visitors with critical safe access to the BeltLine via an access point at S Gordon St. and Ralph David Abernathy Blvd.
